EPSD Athletic Programs participants at all levels are expected to demonstrate qualities that are characterized by fair play, integrity, ethical behavior and respect. Emphasizing and improving the sportsmanship of our student-athletes, coaches, parents and staff is one of our highest priorities. Each coach, student, parent, and staff member has a role and responsibility to model and teach good sportsmanship while keeping in mind that athletic participation is a learning experience for the student and the programs are an extension of the educational system offered within our school district.

Sportsmanship Guidelines-

  • Display pride and respect in your programs at all times.
  • Maintain enthusiasm and composure.
  • Positively support and respect the participants, coaches, and officials.
  • Exercise good judgment in cheering for outstanding performance, not against opponents or to ridicule an error made by those on the field.
  • Follow the cheerleaders in positive cheers to show support for the participants.
  • Respect decisions made by contest officials.
  • Understand that a ticket represents a privilege to observe and positively support amateur athletes.
  • Encourage surrounding fans to display only positive sportsmanlike conduct.
  • Show respect and concern for an injured player, regardless of team.

Bobcats Send Four Athletes to 3A Track and Field State Championships

Several athletes from the Estes Park boys track and field team are headed to compete at the 2026 Colorado High School Activities Association 3A State Championships this week at Jeffco Stadium. State qualification has become a tradition for the Bobcats track and field program.

This year’s state qualifiers include juniors Noah Moore and Colby O’Brien, along with sophomores Jacob Harger and Jed Kim. Their events are as follows:

  • 4x100m Relay — Jacob Harger, Jed Kim, Noah Moore, and Colby O’Brien
  • 400m Dash — Noah Moore
  • Triple Jump — Jed Kim

Coach John Grotenhuis said, “These athletes have been working hard all season. Each of them has stayed after practice to work on different aspects of their events. Not only that, they have pushed each other to perform at their best and have set school-record times this season. It has been a joy to coach each of them.”

Kim will compete in the triple jump preliminaries at 2:30 p.m. Thursday and will advance directly to the finals if he places in the top 10. Moore will run in the 400m dash preliminaries at 6:43 p.m. Thursday.

The 4x100m relay team will compete in preliminaries at 9:58 a.m. Friday. Finals for the 400m dash are scheduled for Saturday at 12:00 p.m., while the 4x100m relay finals will take place Saturday at 3:50 p.m.

Bobcats Close Historic Regular Season With Mercy-Rule Win Ahead of Regionals

The varsity Bobcats closed out their regular season in dominant fashion today with a 13-1 mercy-rule win in five innings at Platte Canyon in Bailey, Colorado. The victory caps off a historic regular season for the Bobcats, who finish 17-5 overall and ranked No. 4 in the state in 2A.

The Bobcats will find out tomorrow which teams will join them in Estes Park for regional play on Saturday, May 16.

Junior Graham Stafford delivered an efficient outing on the mound, pitching four innings while striking out three. Stafford allowed just two hits and one run. Closer Leo Balduzzi came in for the final inning and struck out two batters. Behind the plate, junior Drake Kearney was solid defensively, recording five assists.

Offensively, it was a full team effort with nearly everyone contributing either a hit or an RBI. The middle of the lineup led the way, as Drake Kearney, Leo Balduzzi, and Isaac Hill combined for six hits and two RBIs.

The junior varsity Bobcats also earned an 18-6 victory over Platte Canyon, finishing their season with an impressive 11-3-1 record.

Coach Matt Bird said, “Graham started on the bump and did exactly what we asked him to do, which was pitch to contact. We played great defense and got timely hitting from everyone in our lineup. Today was exactly what we needed heading into regionals. Now we wait to see the other three teams coming to Estes Park on Saturday.

“I would personally like to invite the entire community out to watch us this Saturday at Stanley Park. I would also like to extend a huge thank you to our wonderful team parents for entrusting me and the coaches to guide their kids. Today was the culmination of a once-in-a-lifetime season for me as a coach. Go Bobcats!”

The Bobcats head into regionals on a hot streak, having won 10 of their last 11 games. While the season has already been historic, it is clear the Bobcats believe they still have plenty more baseball left to play.

Bobcats Win Thriller, Secure Regional Hosting

The varsity Bobcats earned a huge 3–2 win today in a key Mile High League matchup at Butch Butler Field in Greeley. The victory puts the Bobcats in a three-way tie for the league title and extends their winning streak to five games. The win also solidifies a regional hosting spot in Estes Park next weekend — the first time in program history the team will host regionals.

The game was a true pitching duel and featured high-level baseball throughout. Junior Noah Webster continued his dominant season on the mound, pitching 6.2 innings while striking out five and allowing just two hits.

Offensively, the Bobcats were led by senior Caleb Sumner, who had two hits and an RBI. Junior Drake Kearney scored two runs, while junior Leo Balduzzi delivered a timely RBI hit. Senior Isaac Hill added four stolen bases. Defensively, the entire team looked sharp and postseason-ready. Hill and Grant Maxwell especially stood out in the middle infield.

Coach Matt Bird said, “Noah pitched incredible for us today. I don’t use the term ‘ace pitcher’ often, but Noah is becoming a true ace. I can put him on the mound against the biggest opponent, and he always rises to the occasion.

“We were shorthanded as a team today, and some of the guys who started for us aren’t normal starters. They stepped up big. It won’t show up in the box score, but Gabe had the at-bat of the game for us today. We were up one, and Gabe worked the count long enough to allow Dort to steal second and third and then score. The fact that Gabe made their pitcher work allowed us to get an insurance run that turned out to be the winning run.

“I am honored and humbled that this team allows me to coach them.”

The Bobcats will close out the regular season at Platte Canyon on Tuesday. Regional sites and opponents will be announced by CHSAA on Wednesday.

Senior Night Delayed, but Bobcat Seniors Still Deliver

The varsity Bobcats won a key Mile High League game tonight, defeating SkyView Academy 7–1 behind standout performances from their seniors. The game, originally scheduled as Senior Night at Stanley Park, was moved to SkyView Academy’s home field in Highlands Ranch because of the early-week snowstorm.

Senior Matthias Westley led the offense with two doubles and three RBIs. His bases-clearing double in the sixth inning sealed the victory for the Bobcats. Senior Caleb Sumner pitched a complete game, recording eight strikeouts while allowing just three hits and one earned run. Senior Isaac Hill anchored the defense behind the plate with strong leadership and solid play at catcher.

Junior Leo Balduzzi also had a huge night, finishing with two hits, three runs, three stolen bases, and a triple that nearly cleared the center-field fence. Drake Kearney added a sacrifice fly RBI.

The biggest milestone of the night came from Sumner, who recorded his 200th career strikeout — a major accomplishment for a high school pitcher.

The win gives the No. 6-ranked Bobcats momentum heading into another major league matchup tomorrow against No. 3 Dayspring Christian Academy. The game will serve as a playoff-like test with postseason baseball beginning next weekend.

The JV Bobcats also defeated SkyView Academy tonight, winning 4–3 on a game-winning hit by freshman Grant Maxwell that scored Johan Fernandez. The JV team was led on the mound by Graham Stafford, Alonso Bernal, and Gabe Oberg.

Marcantonio left for the Arvada Aquatic Center this afternoon after receiving a clapout from classmates and teachers at the high school.

Athletic Director Nolan Oberg said, “We are so proud of Evan for keeping boys swimming and diving alive in Estes Park. The program would not have continued without Evan’s commitment and dedication. It is a challenge to qualify for state year after year, and Evan has made it look easy.”
